The “cave design” concept has proven to have lasting appeal in modern interior decoration, becoming a staple in contemporary architecture. This innovative approach is beautifully showcased in The Pietra Project, a stunning residential development in Leeds, UK, led by surface design specialists Tocco Minerale in collaboration with their partner, Stucco & Stucco.
The goal of The Pietra Project was to bring the essence of cave design—a contemporary style that emphasizes the raw, natural beauty of stone—into interior spaces. Novacolor’s Archi+ Pietra Intonaco, a standout in their sustainable finishes line, was the perfect choice to achieve this look. Known for its ability to replicate complex textures through thin, fast applications, this finish offers an effortless way to bring natural elegance to any interior.
For this project, the design team selected Archi+ Pietra Intonaco, a coarse-grained decorative finish based on hydraulic lime, to cover walls, false ceilings, and shelving. The decorator, Tom Figas, masterfully created a space that evokes the feel of a modern, luxurious cave. The full-bodied texture of the walls, combined with minimalist elegance, creates an atmosphere that is both high-end and inviting. The inclusion of gold mica details and modern LED lighting further enhances the natural, sandy mixture, adding a warm, sophisticated glow to the space.
Nature-inspired designs are increasingly becoming the cornerstone of contemporary architecture. This trend has led to a growing demand for products with low environmental impact—enter Archi+ Pietra Intonaco, a standout offering from Novacolor’s sustainable finishes. This finish not only boasts high adhesion, elasticity, and breathability but also offers strong resistance to alkaline aggression and the formation of mold and bacteria. Importantly, it is free from materials harmful to both health and the environment.
Archi+ Pietra Intonaco has earned its place at the forefront of sustainable design, having achieved the Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification. This certification is a globally recognized standard, demonstrating the product’s compliance with stringent low VOC emission criteria. With its ability to ensure superior indoor air quality while maintaining high aesthetic standards, Archi+ Pietra Intonaco exemplifies the evolution of architecture towards sustainability without compromising on style.
By integrating Archi+ Pietra Intonaco into The Pietra Project, the team has successfully brought the natural beauty of stone into a modern, comfortable living space, setting a new benchmark for architectural design in both form and function.
The Pietra Project, originally featured by Novacolor Italia, is a stunning testament to the creativity and expertise of the design and artisan teams, beautifully showcasing how Archi+ Pietra Intonaco can transform interiors with sustainable elegance and timeless appeal.
