At the heart of every beautiful space is an artist who brings it to life. For Jhon Olaya, founder of d’Art by Jhon and Venetian plaster expert, every project is a unique work of art tailored to the client’s desires and designed with passion and precision. Jhon’s journey began years ago when inspired by his travels across the world, he discovered the allure of Venetian plaster. With certifications in Italy and New York, Jhon’s bespoke finishes have earned him recognition and a loyal client base.
His latest project, a private residence in the Hamptons for Donna Lennard, owner of the Il Buco restaurant chain, showcases the versatility and beauty of Novacolor Italia materials. This exceptional work, which was even featured by The New York Times, highlights Jhon’s ability to transform spaces into timeless art.
A Closer Look at the Hamptons Project
For this Hamptons residence, Jhon applied his expertise across several key areas of the home, each with its own distinct style and feel.
In the bathroom, Jhon used the Wall2Floor microcement system in a Timberwolf grey color. He created a custom finish that was carefully tailored to the client’s specific taste, resulting in a sleek, matte look that balances modern design with a cozy, personal touch.
The main bedroom features the serene Silvery Moon color, which Jhon brought to life using Marmorino KS. This classic Venetian plaster finish was applied with a custom technique, adding a soft and luxurious texture to the walls that elevates the room’s restful atmosphere.
A bath’s main walls were finished in Marmorino, KS, with a warm, vibrant hue that paired beautifully with the design details.
Moving to the staircase edge and facade, Jhon employed the Archi+ Concrete system, combined with the Fase Silossanica product, to design a unique concrete finish. The aesthetic is both striking and refined, complementing the home’s architectural design while adding a modern yet timeless appeal.
On the first floor walls, Jhon opted for Marmorino KS in American White, paired with a wax finish. This combination adds depth and elegance to the open spaces, creating a sophisticated and serene environment that exudes understated luxury.
Montauk Retreat & Il Buco Restaurant: More Highlights
In addition to the Hamptons project, Jhon completed another private residence in Montauk, where he applied the Wall2Floor microcement system in a white sand color. This custom application was inspired by Moroccan design, resulting in a soft, matte finish that evokes a sense of global elegance and tranquility.
Jhon’s portfolio also extends to commercial spaces, including his work at the renowned Il Buco restaurant in New York. For this project, he used Florenzia in vibrant Mediterranean colors for the bathrooms, creating an inviting and energetic atmosphere. The restaurant’s main walls were finished in Marmorino KS, with white and red hues defining the space, including a striking main wall leading toward the loft.
