Transforming Spaces: The Modern Farmhouse Fireplace Project
Recently, the Stilley Tulloss Design Build Group embarked on a new build project for a modern farmhouse in Flagstaff, Arizona, and enlisted Tracy Browner to create a distinctive fireplace that would become the centerpiece of the home. The design brief by Kimberly Parker of Kimberly Parker Design called for a contemporary yet warm aesthetic that echoed the architectural style of the farmhouse.
The homeowners desired a fireplace with a symmetrical design, minimal texture “chatter,” and a clean, smooth finish. They favored a primarily horizontal textural pattern that would subtly draw the eye across the space. To achieve this, Tracy utilized Novacolor’s Archi+ Concrete, tinting it to a light grey to mimic the look of cast-in-place concrete with a subtly distressed finish. To add depth and texture, Fase Silossanica was custom tinted to a darker shade of grey and artistically brushed on, then carefully wiped back to reveal the intricate textural details.
Employing a laser level, Tracy meticulously divided the fireplace into three horizontal sections with a half-inch gap between each, ensuring absolute precision in the layout. The final result was met with resounding approval from all involved, beautifully aligning with the modern farmhouse aesthetic while providing a striking visual anchor in the living space.
