Annette Tyrrell is an artist living in the Pacific Northwest. Not only does she create abstract impressionistic landscape paintings, but she also is an architectural finisher creating art on all kinds of surfaces.
“I believe each piece of art is unique, whether it is art for the wall or art that is applied to the wall,” Annette explains. “Each collector or client is unique. Art speaks to us on a very personal level. Wall finishes are a form of artwork and are just as special and unique as the homes they live in.”
Recently, Karen Glasky, an Interior Designer with Ironstone Furniture & Fire in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, reached out with a unique project. Their project was a beautiful home on a mountaintop surrounded by trees and overlooking a large, beautiful lake. The view is stunning!
A large focal wall in the home opposite a big picture window needed to reflect the spectacular environment. Ms. Glasky wanted an abstract copper wall finish, and the client wanted to add in the elements of the landscape surrounding their home. A sculpted copper landscape wall was designed.
Annette shares, “I chose Novacolor Italia CalceCruda plaster as my base because it has clay in it. The product allowed me to build and sculpt the “relief” design of the trees, mountains, and lake.”
The Verderame Wall Painting system, with its rich color and non-toxic patina solution, was chosen to maximize artistry. “Other patina solutions are runny, but not this one,” Annette says. “It was so much fun to play with the copper! I added a black colorant to darken it. This gave me different patina hues, allowing me the definition of each element of the composition. The darkest blue-green patina was used for the lake, and the lightest patinas were used to gently suggest a mountain behind the trees or the rocks.”
The client and designer were thrilled with the outcome, and so was Annette. “I love that Novacolor Italia has high-quality products that allow for the most versatility in artistry.”
